My New Year's Resolution
My New Years' Resolution
by Charlene B. Cook DVM
The end of the year is a stressful time for many of us. There are family gatherings to attend, gifts to select and purchase, special meals and treats to prepare, decorations to celebrate the season, religious gatherings and so much more. I truly love the holiday season. I love the meaning of each holiday and the celebrations that come with each event. But I do wish they could be spread throughout the year.
The end of the year is also a time to reflect on the past and plan for the future. Several weeks ago I had a client ask me why we did not have a Gastroscope (an endoscope long enough to view the interior of a horses stomach). My answer was simple, "$10,000!” We are blessed with fantastic customers and we want to be able to provide exceptional care for their horses. We need to be able to invest in the equipment to take care of your horse and focus our efforts on veterinary medicine, surgery and patient care. We also know that many of our clients are under financial stress as 2013 brought unprecedented furloughs to RAFB employees and additional hardships due to the government spending reductions. We know that clients need options to care for the horses they love and we want to help.
In order to provide our clients with more options for paying for the procedures their horses need, we evaluated several options but quickly settled on CareCredit as it offered our clients something that we could not; flexible terms with multiple financing options. We took steps in December to add CareCredit to our available payment options. Many of you are already familiar with CareCredit; for those of you that are not here are some answers to your CareCredit questions.
What is CareCredit?
CareCredit is a healthcare credit card that makes care possible today for purchases of all amounts. It is a credit card designed not only to pay for your horses care but is accepted at thousands of locations for other health, beauty, and wellness needs. With some of their special financing options, you can avoid paying interest by making minimum monthly payments and paying the full amount due by the end of the promotional period.
How is CareCredit different from my other bank cards?
Unlike your Visa or MasterCard, the CareCredit card offers a “No Interest” special financing option if paid in full within a six month promotional period. They also offer other payment options that range up to sixty months. For complete details, please read the Credit Card Account Agreement within the application. We have brochures and applications in our office or you can apply on line at their web site.
Is CareCredit an insurance policy?
No. CareCredit is a healthcare credit card. You qualify on the strength of your credit history. It does not replace insurance policies. Instead, it's meant to help you pay out-of-pocket healthcare costs that may not be covered by insurance
I'm not sure I want another credit card. Why do I want CareCredit?
The CareCredit healthcare credit card is designed specifically for your healthcare needs and wants, but once you've applied you can use it repeatedly for anyone in the family, including your pets. CareCredit has a financing option for many of the health, beauty, and wellness expenses that come up on a regular basis. Over 175,000 enrolled providers around the country accept the CareCredit health card. We know credibility is important to you. That's why we want you to know that CareCredit is a part of GE Capital which means you can rest assured that you're getting one of the nations’ most credible and trusted financial partners. For over 25 years, they have helped over seven million cardholders get the procedures they want and need. The University of Georgia, Florida and Auburn Veterinary Schools all accept CareCredit should your horse need to be referred for treatment.
How can I apply for CareCredit?
You can apply online or download and print the application and take it to your healthcare provider. The application is quick and easy, and after it's submitted, you'll instantly learn if you're approved.
I already have a CareCredit account, can I use it again?
Yes, you can use your CareCredit account over and over at any practice which accepts CareCredit. As long as you have the available credit on your account, you can use your CareCredit health card for ongoing or new treatments and procedures, without reapplying.
Can I pay a portion of the treatment cost myself and use CareCredit for the remainder?
Yes. You can use CareCredit for treatment balances from $1 to over $25,000.
You can learn more about CareCredit on their website www.CareCredit.com or feel free to call us at 478-825-1981, we'll be happy to answer your questions.
As CareCredit will provide you a payment option in additional to Cash, Check, MasterCard, Discover, and Visa, we will no longer offer any in-house financing. As always payment is due at the time of service.
My resolution is to make changes that will allow you to take the best possible care of your horse with payment options that are best suited for your personal situation while allowing us to offer you the highest level of care and raise our business to the level you deserve.
We look forward to working with you and your horse.
Here's wishing you your best year ever!
